JOURNAL

Updated: Sep 25, 2019

As uni students, I’m sure we all understand the process of liking something in a store, checking the price tag, and reluctantly putting it back on the shelf. Here’s a list of clothing stores, both online and in shopping centres, that are affordable as well as cute!

1. Thrift Shops

Of course, I had to include the cheapest option at the start of this list. Thrift shops / second hand shops, such as The Salvation Army are perfect for clothes that are unique and most importantly, marked at prices that are as low as 50 cents. Although this method does take a lot more effort – from having to sort through an abundance of clothes with the chance that you may not even find anything to finding the perfect piece and realising it is not your size - it is not only cheap, but also a sustainable way to buy clothes.

2. ASOS

ASOS is an online store that sells many brands and styles, with prices ranging from cheap to more expensive. The best thing about ASOS is the quality of these clothing pieces that you are getting for cheaper than most places. the range of items is also amazing, which also includes branded products, such as Adidas. Whether you’re looking for something specific or just going for a browse, you’re sure to find something that will suit your personal style. Side note; the shipping is fast, and most importantly – free!

3. TK Maxx

TK Maxx has only been Australia for a few years and is a great place to stop for discounted designer brands, such as Calvin Klein, and even Kenzo! The layout of the store is similar to a thrift shop, so take into consideration the amount of time you may need to look through everything. TK Maxx also houses accessories and bags, as well as homeware items.

4. Zara

To be honest, I used to always avoid Zara because of how expensive it seemed, however when I eventually entered, I realised that was not the case at all! Zara has a large, always evolving, and relatively cheap range of clothing and accessories. Ranging from basics to extreme statement pieces, Zara items are always on trend and you are sure to find something in there that you will like!

5. Cotton On

Cotton On is an ethical brand that preaches sustainable and ethical practices ranging from suppliers to the environment. Prices are low, and the clothing line is stylish, as well as comfortable. Cotton On also branches out into Cotton On Body, which is a good place to shop for loungewear, activewear, and intimates. Cotton On stores are abundant in metropolitan areas, and also have a menswear section, which features a lot of clothing (especially t-shirts & hoodies) that can be sported by any gender.

6. Uniqlo

Another store that seems more expensive than it actually is, Uniqlo provides unique clothing items that are amazing quality. You can find anything from cotton to cashmere that is easy to look after and super comfortable to wear! Japanese owned, Uniqlo is a go to store, especially for winter items as they specialise in puffer jackets, windbreakers, and thermals.

7. ThredUP

Imagine going thrift shopping but online…because that is exactly what thredUP is. Unlike actual thrift shopping, everything on ThredUP is categorised, so that you can find exactly what you are looking for up to 90% off! Sustainable, cheap, and they deliver right to your front door, so you don’t even need to leave your house!

8. Everlane

Everlane is a sustainable, North America-based fashion brand that focuses on ethical practices and affordable clothing. This company mixes comfortability with beautifully crafted clothing, as well as shoes and accessories – and don’t stress, they just started shipping to Australia!
